Donate to the United Workers New Organizers Sustainer Fund

The New Organizers Sustainer Fund helps to support our highest level of leadership development, the Poverty Scholars and New Organizers Program. It is a three-year university level paid training program for leaders within the United Workers. Course work includes bible study, readings such as Howard Zinn’s “Peoples History of the United States”, and reflections on the complexities of poverty and the larger economic context. Participants spend six hours in class room discussion and four hours doing what we call “field work” where they learn community organizing, membership recruitment, workshop facilitation, and new media tools (website, radio, video).

In its first three years the Poverty Scholars Program has had nine participants. For one year each student is provided a living wage training stipend at $15.30/hr for ten hours each week. The total cost per student is $9,000.

With your contribution we can sustain and expand the Poverty Scholars program and continue to build the movement to end poverty.
